Air Freight to Ghana — Transit Time

Why consolidation takes a few days: VoltaHaul ships on a fixed weekly container schedule. Once your shipment arrives at our warehouse, it waits for the next container cutoff, gets loaded, and departs. Missing a cutoff by one day means waiting for the next week's vessel.
Vessel cutoff dates matter. When you book, we'll confirm the next available departure date and your cargo cutoff deadline — the latest date your shipment must be at the warehouse to make that vessel. If you drop off after the cutoff, your cargo goes on the following week's ship.
Seasonal variation to know about:
- November–January (Holiday Rush): Ocean bookings spike significantly. Container space can fill up weeks in advance. If you're shipping gifts for Christmas or New Year, book early — and read the planning table below.
- Harmattan season (November–March): Dust conditions in Ghana can occasionally slow port operations at Tema. Not a major delay, but factor in an extra 2–3 days during heavy harmattan periods.
- Summer (June–August): Generally the smoothest time to ship. Less holiday demand, faster port processing.

Incomplete or incorrect documents Every shipment needs a properly completed packing list and consignee information. Restricted items triggering inspection If your shipment contains an item that raises a flag — even accidentally — customs will pull it for a full inspection. This can add 3–7 days. Know what's restricted before you pack. When in doubt, leave it out or ask us first.
Ghana Customs Authority processing backlogs Port volume fluctuates. During peak periods (especially before major holidays), GCA processing times at Tema can stretch from 3 days to 7 or more. This is outside our control, but we monitor it and notify you when it affects your shipment.
Unpaid duties delaying release Your cargo won't leave the port until duties are paid. If your consignee hasn't arranged payment, the shipment waits. Communicate the expected duty amount to your consignee before the ship arrives so there's no scramble.
